Overview
Past & Future is divided into two parts: PAST and FUTURE.
The PAST section reflects on what you’ve accomplished, including your efforts, achievements, and unmet goals.
The FUTURE section focuses on how you plan to improve and what you aim to accomplish in the coming year.
This is an excellent tool for a year-end review.
Reviewing the Past
Effort spent
List the activities or projects you worked on this year, either in chronological order or by category.
You can present this in various formats, such as written statements, photos, or any form of evidence that reflects your work.
Achievement made
Evaluate your performance based on the efforts listed. Include specific data, personal growth, and unique accomplishments that set you apart from others.
Room to grow
Identify unmet goals and consider whether they were the result of an incorrect approach or time constraints.
Avoid being overly critical of failures—focus on recognizing problems, exposing weaknesses, and having the courage to improve.
Planning the Future
Plan next year
Based on the areas for improvement identified in Step 3, outline your growth plan for the coming year.
Think about both personal development and the growth of your team or organization.
Support needed
Identify the resources or support required to achieve your goals.
This could be tangible or intangible, but ensure it falls within a reasonable scope.
Leverage leaders and colleagues to help you reach success.
Future state
Define or update the vision for your work and yourself.
This step allows you to paint a picture of your future success, based on your efforts.
Keep the vision positive—this is about imagining a better future for yourself.
Summary
The perspective of this model is much higher than other review models.
It asks you to zoom out all your past holistically (not the specific things you worked on.), and it makes you find a better pattern to grow systematically.
